Better Homes And Gardens Essential Oil Diffuser Light Show

I love candles, not so much for the lit flame but more for the smell that takes over a room.

With particular scents being associated with different activities - I know I'm not the only one with a go to sleep candle, another for relaxing and another for when I want to concentrate - it's no surprise that they're popular in so many homes.

But I do find that open flames can be concerning and outright off-putting (and completely not allowed in some buildings).

Especially if you've got little ones tottering about or you don't live in a constant state of minimalism.

This is where Volant comes in, this stylish diffuser is easy enough to use. You pop it on a surface of your choice (with the wire being easy to tuck away if you're placing it on a cabinet) and before long the entire room is transformed.

At first I didn't notice any impact from the diffuser, but after leaving the room and coming back I was hit with a big change in scent.

My favourite scent so far has been Focus, which includes cinnamon, vanilla and clementine, and I find that it's pleasant enough to get me in the zone without being distracting.

But they have a great range of scents, each made with a blend to capture the perfect mood or environment.

I am a big fan of reading with rain or cabin sounds in the background, it's something I find quite relaxing (because strangely hearing my washing machine going doesn't quite have the same effect).

So I'm also quite a fan of the Cabin scent, made with a range of wood essential oils, which adds an atmospheric touch to any evening.

The oils can also be used for massages, only if mixed in with a carrier oil, and I'm quite a big fan.

Although they're not cheap, the unique blends retail from £11 to £35 with sets starting at £51.

The stylish diffuser is £105, and while it certainly adds a lovely touch to any room that can be more than people are willing to spend.

So the question is: are they worth it?

Well, that depends. If you're like me and love using different scents to change the atmosphere of a room then I think it is.

I've tried a variety of oil diffusers over the years and I've found none of them have had such a strong impact on an entire room. It's normally much more subdued and sometimes even noisy.

I also really like that there are different blends to make up different moods and atmospheres - I recognise that you could probably make a blend yourself but by the time you've bought all of the different oils, are you really saving anything?

Volant is definitely better than reed diffusers, which I find don't always have as much of an impact as I would hope.

But if you're not invested in room fragrances, I think it could be worth buying a cheaper model of diffuser.

Amazon have a range of models, for under £40, that offer ambient light, humidifying features alongside the scent and interesting designs.

I think Volant makes for a lovely present to a scent fanatic in your life.
